Special Interest in Functional Medicine
Dr. Alma le Roux
General Practitioner
Dr Alma le Roux graduated from the University of Pretoria (UP) in 2000. She completed her internship year at Elim Hospital in the Limpopo province. Thereafter, she had the privilege to gather work- and abundant life experience in New Zealand and Canada. She spent several years being a full-time mom, a time for which she is very grateful. She has always fostered an awareness of the importance of nutrition, exercise and lifestyle, and the effect of good choices related to these aspects on a person’s health and wellbeing.
Ever since the moment the discipline of functional medicine first crossed her path, she has been captivated by the fundamental way in which this approach is able to change a person’s health and wellbeing for the better. Functional medicine addresses disease at its root cause. By utilising this approach, a person can not only reach a point where they are disease free, but also achieve true and long-lasting wellbeing.
Dr Alma has an attentive, caring approach to her work. Building trusting relationships with her patients is very important to her. She aims to empower her patients to play an active role in their own healing- and health journeys. Putting an emphasis on disease prevention, and longevity, as well as creating awareness about it, is of great importance to Dr Alma.
Her special interests in the field of medicine include: bio-identical hormone balancing, auto-immune diseases (especially Hashimoto’s thyroiditis), type 2 diabetes, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, and mood-related problems (including anxiety).
Dr Alma’s recent and pertinent courses include:
- Integrative Medicine Bootcamp, Bio-identical Hormone balancing, and Intravenous nutrient therapy from The Golding Institute.
- Certified Functional Medicine Provider (CFMP) from the Functional Medicine University (currently in the process of completion).
Thomas Edison in his infinite wisdom once said: “The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will instruct his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet, and the cause and prevention of disease”. Although Dr Alma acknowledges that conventional medicine has an important role to fulfil, the wisdom of this quote by Thomas Edison truly resonates with what she believes to be true.
On a personal level:
Alma is married to her best friend, and love of her life, Christo. They have four lively, open-hearted and open-minded children. Their pets include the unusual combo of three dogs, three tortoises, five bunnies, eight geckoes, and even a guinea pig!
Alma loves spending time with her family. She thoroughly enjoys experimenting with new recipes to cook tasty and healthy meals. Spending time in nature where she feels closest to her Heavenly Father, going for early morning walks with Christo or having a cup of coffee and a heart-to-heart talk with a good friend, are some of her favourite things to do. Traveling and experiencing foreign cultures and cuisine is a passion of Alma. She wonders when Christo is going to surprise her with a trip to Greece…
Dr. Christo le Roux
General Practitioner

Special Interest in the wide variety of General Medicine
Dr Christo graduated from the University of Pretoria in 1998. (MBChB, Pret.)
The door for him to go and study medicine opened up after he did a year of Bible school upon completion of Grade 12. ‘Medicine’ must be in his blood since his dad, mom, brother and two sisters are all in the medical field.
Since graduating, he has gained 22 years of invaluable clinical experience. This ranged from government hospital work in rural South Africa to rural work abroad, as far north as Churchill, Canada in the subarctic, to as far south as the North island of New Zealand. In Churchill, he got exposed to true Inuit people and their unique health challenges. Here he has also had extensive experience in Emergency Medicine.
In New Zealand dr. Christo worked in a teaching hospital rotating in the departments of Orthopedic surgery, and Internal Medicine. He has had many years of experience in private GP practice in Canada, which also included hospital- and emergency work. Since 2015 he has been working as a GP in Potchefstroom.
In his work , he primarily enjoys to see people get better, and ultimately heal, or become disease free. He likes to get to know his patients on a personal level, and his even-keeled, kind and pleasant personality is conducive to this. Since dr Christo has personally seen the health benefits of regular excercise, he sees this as a non-negotiable component to healthy living. He is looking forward to make this a more doable action for his patients at Rachem Wellness because of the multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
He likes to see patients young, old and in between, with a wide variety of conditions…from earache, broken bones, lacerations, chronic medical conditions, as well as those with a broken heart.
On a personal level… he has been married to the girl of his dreams since 2000.
(PS: her name is Alma ;)). Together they enjoy many activities, usually involving the outdoors. They have four energetic children who challenge him to stay fit and healthy. They form the core of his workout/ fitness team. Christo’s Faith in God is part of who he is, and he strives to fulfill God’s purposes for his life.
Christo has many interests, including gardening, hiking, hunting, playing guitar, and travelling. He’s secretly saving money to be able to surprise Alma with a trip to Greece…

She currently only consults with allergic & intolerant patients at Rachem Wellness, as well as online.
She is registered with the HPCSA (The Health Professions Council of South Africa), ALLSA (The Allergy Society of South Africa) and AFSA (Allergy Foundation South Africa). She graduated from the University of Pretoria (UP) in 2007, after which she completed her community service at Kalafong Hospital in Atteridgeville, Pretoria. Thereafter, she continued working at Kalafong whilst starting her private practice part-time. Her and her family moved to Potchefstroom in 2015, where she started working as a part-time lecturer at the School of Nutrition (NWU). In 2018, she completed her master’s degree (cum-laude) at the North-West University (NWU). Read more at https://allegrow.co.za
Her passion for food allergies & -intolerances originated with the diagnosis of multiple-food allergies in her first-born son in 2011. Her interest and experience in this field grew during the management of food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) in her 2nd born son. Her last-born daughter was also diagnosed with multiple food-allergies, and selected food-additive intolerances. Food-additives affect her children’s health and behaviour, and so her interest continues to grow in this field. Having experienced food intolerances herself, she has learned to carefully assess and identify culprit foods and other possible causes. By excluding identified triggers and prioritising gut health, they now enjoy a much better quality of life as a result.
Idonette values her relationship with the Lord, above all else. She treasures her relationship with her husband and best friend, Cilliers and their three children: Joshua, Eben and Meah.
She is passionate about healthy living in general and enjoys cycling, playing tennis, and drinking coffee. As a family, they enjoy spending time outdoors, singing and playing music together.

Mona aims to provide a safe and confidential space for her patients where they may become aware of and start to address the challenges they face in their lives. There are many reasons to reach out to a psychologist – some individuals come to therapy to resolve very specific problems, others seek therapy for less clear-cut reasons. Individuals are assisted to better understand themselves and their circumstances through therapy and begin to make significant changes in their lives through the collaborative processes that take place in psychotherapy.
She prefers to work from a Cognitive-Behavioural paradigm, whilst integrating a wide variety of therapeutic techniques. With this approach, she acknowledges that each individual whom she treats is unique.
It wasn’t one specific event or catalyst that lead her down the career path she pursued, but rather many different significant life experiences which contributed to her decision. Her personality traits and personal convictions also correlates with the path she chose. She always aims to treat individuals with respect and compassion, without prejudice. She believes that she is an adaptable person, who is open to new experiences and challenges.
She was raised and studied in Potchefstroom. After she completed her studies, she left her hometown for a few years to follow the path her career choice laid out for her. She was happy to return home in 2018 with her husband and two children after having spent a number of years in Pretoria.

What is Neurofeedback?
- It is a form of operant conditioning in which the client is being rewarded by means of visual and auditory feedback during the training of the brain. The brain will therefore learn to change and reach a desired goal. The training is non-invasive, and the person can change his/her own brainwave pattern. The person learns to self-regulate.
- Dr Boshoff makes use of Thought Technology (computer software) that will provide the client with instant visual and auditory feedback. Sensors are attached to the scalp and based on where the sensors are placed, that area of the brain is trained.
- Neurofeedback meets the criteria specified by APA (American Psychological Association) and it is evidence based. Dr Boshoff is currently providing neurofeedback for children and adults who struggle with concentration problems and anxiety. Research has shown that Neurofeedback can be an effective option for the aforementioned.
Dr Boshoff strives to allow her clients to reach their true potential and to develop their emotional wellbeing and get a better understanding of who they are.
“Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.” – Mary Kay Ash
