“Where your holistic health is our priority.”

Rachem Wellness Services

‘Holistic’ has a twofold meaning pertaining to it here at Rachem Wellness.

Firstly, our beings are made up of body, mind and soul. To only focus on the condition of one of these elements, we neglect the others.
Because these three entities are supposed to be in synergy for optimal wellbeing, it has to be assessed and addressed that way.

Secondly, ‘holistic’ also refers to the type of approach and outlook we have on the management of sickness and disease. We take an in-depth look and consider many options to be part of the management plan. This is where a collaborative approach between different healthcare providers can be valuable.

Lifestyle factors (movement, nutrition, sleep, stress management, environmental toxins and exposures, spiritual wellbeing), medication, vitamins, other supplements and hormones are all very useful considerations.

Individual psychotherapy

Individual psychotherapy is a joint process through which patients work one-on-one with a therapist to explore their feelings, conflicts, everyday difficulties, beliefs and behaviours.  This is done in a safe, caring, non-judgemental and confidential environment.  The therapeutic relationship forms the basis for exploration and transformation.

Issues that may be addressed in therapy include, but are not limited to: adjustment to life changes and challenges, stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, addiction, abuse, sexuality, relationship or marriage challenges and family issues.

Therapy can also be helpful those who simply feel overwhelmed, lost, struggling to find their way, who desire a better understanding of themselves and strive to make positive lifestyle changes.

Adolescent therapy

Adolescence is a unique and challenging developmental phase and adolescents face many transitions. This can be both challenging and exciting.  Issues of self-identity, independence and decision-making play a major role in healthy development. Many teenagers may need help dealing with school stress, relationships, anxiety, depression, trauma and family problems.  In therapy, an opportunity is given to work through these issues, explore different possibilities and make better choices in their lives.

Couples therapy

Couples therapy helps couples of all types to gain insight into their relationship, to better understand each other’s needs, recognize and resolve conflicts and enhance their relationship and connection with each other.

Counselling can also help couples who plan to get married achieve a deeper understanding of each other and iron out differences before marriage.

    • What is Neurofeedback?
      • It is a form of operant conditioning in which the client is being rewarded by means of visual and auditory feedback during the training of the brain. The brain will therefore learn to change and reach a desired goal. The training is non-invasive, and the person can change his/her own brainwave pattern.  The person learns to self-regulate.
      • Dr Boshoff makes use of Thought Technology (computer software) that will provide the client with instant visual and auditory feedback. Sensors are attached to the scalp and based on where the sensors are placed, that area of the brain is trained.
      • Neurofeedback meets the criteria specified by APA (American Psychological Association) and it is evidence based. Dr Boshoff is currently providing neurofeedback for children and adults who struggle with concentration problems and anxiety. Research has shown that Neurofeedback can be an effective option for the aforementioned.

Intravenous Therapy as a means of defense and protection

LIVA means life, defense, and protection…

By delivering nutrients and fluid intravenously (IV), or straight into the bloodstream, it is bio-available for the body to utilize immediately. No absorption issues can stand in the way.

Diets that are rather nutrient-poor, can cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Furthermore, some commonly used medications can contribute to certain nutrient deficiencies. The modern, stressful lifestyles we live demand more from us than what our bodies often have to give.

With LIVA drip therapy, you will firstly be rehydrated. Other benefits, depending on which drip you choose, include immune-boosting abilities, improved mental function and concentration, increased energy and endurance, improved ability to detox, better recovery from strenuous sport, improved skin tone and -condition, and a boost to your general wellbeing.

LIVA offers some standard formulas aimed to support specific outcomes. Additionally, any drip can be customized…the options are limitless. Don’t hesitate to discuss your individual needs, as it can most likely be met.

Come and experience LIVA drip therapy in the relaxing comfort and privacy of the LIVA drip lounge.

Safe, non-invasive real-time imaging of body organs and structures using high frequency sound waves.

Ultrasound (also known as sonar) uses high frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of the organs and structures inside the body. It is a safe procedure, with no radiation risk. It is also considered a safe imaging method in pregnancy.

Little to no preparation is required for the procedure, and results are available on the same day.

The following ultrasound services are offered:

  • Echocardiography (heart sonar) – used to assess the heart size and function, as well as the appearance and function of the valves, and presence of fluid around the heart.
  • General abdominal ultrasound – done to assess internal organs including the liver and gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, aorta and bladder.
  • Gynaecological ultrasound – to evaluate female reproductive organs. (uterus and ovaries)
  • Vascular ultrasound (Doppler) – used to assess bloodflow in the veins and arteries to test for presence of blood clots, atherosclerosis and calcifications.
  • Early pregnancy confirmation and dating scans.
  • First and second trimester basic pregnancy scans – aimed at evaluating the development of the fetus and screening for major abnormalities.
  • Other studies: Small parts such as thyroid and breast ultrasound; evaluation of lymphnodes and other lumps and bumps; assessment of muscles and tendons of commonly injured joints.

Referral from a patient’s GP or specialist is preferable, to facilitate continuity of care. The patient as well as the referring practitioner will in turn receive a formal report with relevant images.

Prepare your body for movement

*MAP Movement® specialises in preparing the body for movement. Fascia is the connective tissue of the body that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, nerve and muscle in place. It forms a protective suit. Specific ‘tools’ are used to create ‘space’ in the fascial suit. Once created, one can enter and strengthen into this ‘space’.

For example most people work seated behind a desk. This made their bodies accustomed to being in a seated posture. The result is a postural scar in the form of a chair.  Their bodies became ‘unfit’ and unaccustomed to standing upright, rotating and moving backward. Lene van Heerden, a co-founder of MAP Movement®️, sums up this idea so well – “Bending in any direction prevents breaking in every direction.”

MAP Movement® is beneficial for everyone. Some of the advantages it has to offer include:

• Improved joint mobility;

• Pain relief;

• Drainage of lymph;

• Stress relief;

• Better balance;

• Optimised lung capacity;

• The mobilisation of scar tissue and

• The restoration of movement

Ms Van der Walt’s professional endeavors also led her to appreciate the incredible importance breathing has in one’s life.

Correct and efficient breathing technique is an integral part of the services Ms Van der Walt offers her patient. Even though living inherently implies that one is breathing, breathing does not necessarily mean one is truly living. With this in mind, Ms Van der Walt wishes to teach her patients HOW to breathe in their everyday lives so that it may bring them fulness of life.

The trauma/tension releasing exercises used by Ms Van der Walt creates a safe space for the body to release past trauma, as well as current ‘small’ stressors that may hold one back. By doing so, one can engage in similar everyday situations with maturity and clearness of mind. It provides restoration of harmony and tranquillity.
